Active Chapter News:
Alumni,
Things are going well here in Farmville with the anticipation of winter break and the spring semester to follow. The number of kids we are looking at taking in the spring look to be in the teens and we expect to initiate at least 12 new members. Rush will be held the third week of January and walk to be held February 2nd. Please plan on attending. This will be a major addition to our Fraternity and it would be great to roll deep to walk that Friday.
The current debt situation to nationals was completed this week when one of active members Beau Weaver (Biff) decided to pay the check out of pocket. Biff will be going to Iraq this May for a year and a half service for the Army. The amount due was roughly 6000 dollars. The Fraternity will be in debt now to Biff until that amount of money is returned to him. As we spoke of at the meeting, the Fraternity is looking to complete odd jobs in order to pay this debt. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND WHAT JOBS YOU NEED DONE AND WHEN WE CAN DO THEM. We feel this would be a great opportunity for the Chapter to put a dent in the money owed as well as create some relations with you as Alumni.
I have put together a list of how much it costs to be a member of a Fraternity on campus.
- Grand Chapter Fees, $140 a semester
- National Dues, $520 upon initiation
- Insurance, $4000 a year
- Local Dues, $250 a semester
- Chapter Room Dues, $400 a year
- Composite $623.50
- Pig Roast, $40 each
- Parties, $10 a weekend
- Bid Night, $20 each
We currently have 22 active members of Alpha Sigma Phi. This is slightly the above the average of 20 members of on campus Fraternities. As you can see, being a member is not any cheaper now as it was when you all were here so we could use your help in raising some money.
As many of you are well aware of, the market for property in Farmville is quickly on the rise. Finding Fraternity houses is becoming harder and harder each year because of this. Alumni of other Fraternities have found buying a house and renting to Fraternity as being very lucrative as they always have a market (us) to rent to. Please talk amongst yourselves or get in contact with me if you would be interested and I will help put you in contact with the right people.
Pig Roast this year is already being focused on and is going really well. We have a number of fields to choose from as well as some great new ideas to make this the best one yet! We are looking at getting a bluegrass/rockabilly band to play as well as an alternative/ska band and there look to be some 150 Alumni in attendance. Please send me any suggestions that you may have for Pig Roast or any criticisms that may have to help me do my job. As I mentioned in my email sent week ago, Pig Roast will be held Saturday April 28. This is not set in stone yet but please mark your calendars as this is looking to be the date and I will confirm this by January.
Many of you are receiving emails from me for the first time as our contact list is growing. Please talk to your pledge brothers or those that you keep in contact with and ask if they are receiving these emails. If you are receiving these emails more than once please let me know that as well.
Our school mail address is Alpha Sigma Phi Box # 2997, Longwood University Farmville, VA 23909. There will be an attachment of our minutes kept from our last meeting and a link to the Alumni Associations website they are designing.
