Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I hope this means something to all of us regarding the Delta Iota Alumni Association. Many of you may have wondered, what the heck is going on?

Going back a few months ago, the Executive Council of the Alumni Association decided to bring the social aspects back to the forefront and do a lot of the detail behind the scenes. So, let me give you an update on both. Since then, we have raced go karts, seen a Braves game, networked through email for some brothers, and fielded some questions about the future. So far this year, we have accomplished quite a bit. The chapter is back in good standing, 125 brothers attended Pig Roast, and we helped Dante raise $12k for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Bo Weaver was recognized as Brother of the Year by Nationals for his sacrifice to the debt of the chapter. Congrats to Bo, who is now defending our country in Iraq. Congratulations to the undergrads for raising the money to pay Bo before he was deployed.

I want to thank all that have participated in social outings, donated money, and provided help and feedback. Extra thanks go out to Corey Edmonds, John Nagle, Bobby Arnold, Sean Murphy, Kedric Griffin, Clif White and Hank Kim. All of these guys have put in additional time to move us forward in many ways. So, where do we stand? Here are some milestones.

All of this means we can have official business accounts, begin to raise money, etc. I feel proud of these accomplishments. If more people get involved, this association can do some really good things. For the future, all of us need to become more committed to each other, the association and these charities. The 2008 year will be a fundraising year, so please be prepared. Yet there is more time in 2007 for us to gather and celebrate our brotherhood.

There is an invitation attached for the First Annual Delta Iota Alumni Association Golf Tournament and Formal. It is set for October 20, 2007 at Hanover Country Club in Ashland, Va. I would like to see a massive turnout for this event. It will start with a golf tournament and conclude with dinner and dancing. If your spouse or guest plays golf, please get them to participate. If they do not, we are trying to plan activities for the day. Activities for Friday night are pending. Further details to follow. There are 10 rooms blocked off at the Hampton Inn, only 10 minutes from the golf course. More rooms are available if needed. Please take a look at this invitation and come see us in October.

I look forward to making this Alumni Association a great one.

In Phi,
